“The spine not only supports the body — it carries our strength, our resilience, and our hope.”
Warm greetings from the Spinal Cord Society of India.
It is my privilege to introduce our society, now proudly in its 25th year. We are a unique and vibrant conglomeration of professionals dedicated to spinal cord injury care, rehabilitation, research, innovation, and academic advancement. Our membership spans the full spectrum of spine-care specialists, including Spine Surgeons, Rehabilitation Specialists (PMR), Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Dieticians, Orthotists, Nurses, Peer Counsellors, and Consumers. This extraordinary diversity gives our society its true strength.
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of individuals with spinal cord injury and promote comprehensive spine health. Built on the principles of teamwork, collaboration, and a multi-centric, multi-disciplinary approach, the society continually strives for excellence. We foster growth through specialized subgroup meetings, knowledge forums, regional workshops, small-group discussions, and our flagship annual conference, ISSICON, which attracts outstanding professionals from across India and the Asia–Pacific region.
We proudly draw inspiration from the visionary pioneers who have shaped our journey — Air Marshal A. S. Chahal, Dr. A. K. Mukherjee, Major H. P. S. Ahluwalia — whose dedication has guided this society into its silver jubilee year.
Our path ahead is filled with opportunity — to innovate, to learn, and to lead. We continue to attract individuals passionate about research, clinical excellence, rehabilitation science, innovation, academic development, and training, all of which fuel progress in spinal cord injury care. None of this is possible without your involvement. Your engagement, participation, and support remain the driving forces behind everything we aspire to achieve as we look forward to the next chapter of growth.
As the Secretary, it is a profound privilege to serve this remarkable community. I look forward to strengthening connections, encouraging wider participation from across the country, and advancing our shared mission of spreading awareness and improving spinal cord injury care nationwide and beyond.
Together, let us continue to learn, collaborate, and uplift one another — building a stronger, more impactful society for the years ahead.
Warm regards,
Dr G Balamurali
