Getting engaged in a suitable vocation is an important long-term goal for SCIs. Engagement in gainful employment offers multiple benefits:

• Provides PSCIs (Persons living with SCIs) with a  sense of purpose and adds to their self-belief and confidence.
• Helps them integrate in family and society as a productive and valuable member. The resultant boost in the importance they receive aids both their confidence and their long-term well-being.
• Employment ensures the PSCIs keep their minds and bodies active, and this significantly improves their general health.

There are various modes of self-employment and jobs. Choosing the right vocation is of paramount importance, and the choice will depend on the person’s degree of physical function, skill sets and abilities, socio-economic back-ground, family environment, infrastructure availability around their home and work-area, ambition and personal choice.
